In remembering President’s Day, believers are called to remember that every president is also a simple human being, created and loved by our Father in heaven. The president is as much in need of our prayer, our acceptance and our love as any other member of God’s family. Today and every day remember in your prayers the President and all our political leaders, that God’s work may be made manifest in our country.
In the verses before today’s Gospel, Jesus has just chosen his twelve apostles and is coming down the mountain with them. Accompanying them is a large crowd. The people are all jostling to get close to Jesus because they have heard of his miraculous powers. Some have already been cured of unclean spirits and diseases and the rest want to touch him and be healed. Never has there been a more captive audience. It is the perfect setting for one of Jesus’ most often-quoted and charismatic sermons.
Parish Mission Statement
Our faith community of St. John the Baptist, founded on the word of God; welcomes all with charity and love….both the strong of Spirit and those who search. As part of the Universal Church, we acknowledge that God has uniquely blessed everyone with abundant gifts. We celebrate the differences that make all of us equal in the eyes of the Lord….using our blessings to provide all who join us in Eucharist with a heart-felt sense of family and communion. For the Lord has brought you to our door….you are a stranger here but once.
